8 weeks and counting

For those who dont know, Ravenscross has joined forces with ”The Warren”, a charity based in Hull, which provides help and advice for young people 16-25 who are out of work and education.

For the last year the warren has been running a project to revamp a 1977 ex military landrover, stripping it back and re-building the engine and bodywork. The young people involved get training in automotive engineering and mechanics (plus a weekend of 4×4 at Dalby Forest when it’s finished), and the whole thing is coming on really well. The finished Landrover will be donated to the Victoria Climbie School on the Ivory coast in Africa, where it is to be used as a School Bus. Thats were we come in!

As a transport company (who has a son that has volunteered on the project from the start), we were asked if we would help with the transport and shipping side of things. Of course we said yes, but thats the easy part. Book the shipping, load the landrover into a container, get it on a truck and drop it off at the dock…piece of cake.

Ravenscross as a company are happy to give the time and transport on the English leg of the journey for free, however…the not so easy bit is putting together an event to raise awareness, and hopefully the £2000 needed to ship the thing (plus maybe a little more to send some spare parts to keep it running over the next couple of years), and get the young people the recognition they deserve for all their hard work.

So far it’s looking like it will happen on the first saturday in December, on or around Queens Gardens in Hull. A stage with live bands, truck pull race between two teams, stalls with food and drink, and any other ideas people can come up with.

So…..wish me luck…if you have any ideas on other things we can do on the day or ways to promote it please yell at me…I’d really appriciate it.

Pallet challenge.

Attending an event for local business is not an easy thing when you dont sell or make anything.

How do you promote that kind of business? What do you put on the stand?

In the end we held the Ravenscross Pallet Challenge.

If we didnt achieve anything else, we all had a good giggle.
